A/Prof Brooke Farrugia

Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering

Brooke Farrugia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, where she leads a research group specialising in biomaterials, tissue engineering, and matrix biology. She also serves as the Assistant Dean (Graduate Research – Quality) within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology.

With a PhD from UNSW Sydney, A/Prof Farrugia has an extensive research background that includes biomaterial development, wound healing, molecular biology, and glycobiology. Her work focuses on the development and characterization of biomaterials and their interactions with biological environments, particularly in the context of wound healing and tissue regeneration.

A/Prof Farrugia's career includes a post-doctoral position at the Queensland University of Technology, where she was part of the Tissue Repair and Regeneration group. She later returned to UNSW to focus on biomimetic materials for growth factor delivery. Since joining the University of Melbourne in 2019, she has continued to innovate in biomimetic material technologies for tissue regeneration and explore extracellular matrix interactions.
